What have I been up to?

So this year I am making a vow to not "buy" anything "commercial" for Christmas this year. I was inspired by this when my Pauls side of the family decided to theme their christmas "redneck." So anything that I will be giving either was hand-made by me or someone else. This is some of the projects I've tackled...

this is a newborn baby hat with a flower on the side

we all love our Tims, but don't love burning our hands, so I made this shark to solve that problem!
this is a sock monket touque for a one-year old
these are monster booties for a 3 year old
this is a "church purse" for all the lip gloss!
this is a touque for a 5 year old
this is a spidermas touque for a 3 year old

and this is a "super star" baby blanket.

So I have been officially tagged by my favorite preggers (and cousin-in-law) Alyssa (two cents of Thiessen) on her blog to answer some questions! Since I love finding out things about people and how they think, I am just going to assume that you all feel the same way! When I'm done answering these questions I have to "tag" some of my other blogger friends to answer some of my own questions!! So here we go...

1. When you were growing up, what did you want to be?

None of you are going to believe this but up until puberty(silly boobs, they wreck your brain) I wanted to be a scientist. I loved experimenting with anything I could get my hands on and loved my microscope. Then when I discovered the stage that's the only place I wanted to be. And still when I get the chance to act in plays or anything, I love it.

2. If you were given an exorbitant amount of money and were told you had to spend it all in one place immediately, what would you do with it?

Hmmm..this is a tough one. If I am allowed to cheat, I would spend it at Safeway where you can buy almost any gift card to any store you can think of, but if I had to choose I would say Target.

3. If you had to choose one food to eat exclusively on a deserted island for the next year, what would it be and why?

Lobster. Not even a question. Its just so good and something that makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

4. Where were you at this time last week?

The time right now is 12:58 on Saturday night and if I tell you what I was doing(who I was doing to be more specific) at this time last week I don't think you would be able to look me in the eye anymore.... *smirk*

5. What do you want to know about the future?

How my girls grow up. Sometimes I just wish I could see the future to see if I'm totally screwing them up or if through some miracle they grow up to be strong, christian women. Only through God's wisdom will I succeed.

6. Do you collect anything?

Shoes. (surprised?)

7. What are you looking forward to most in the next month?

Christmas decorating!! Best time of the year.

8. What would be one of your favorite childhood memories?

Trips to Mexico and B.C. every year. One side of my family lives at each end and it was always so much fun to drive there every year. Also rides in the semi with my dad traveling all over the place.

My questions for my blogger friends:

1. Do you have any phobias?

2. If you have the house to yourself all afternoon, what do you do?

3. Whats a movie you could watch over and over?

4. Do you have any bad habits?

5. Whats the one thing you love most about your husband?

6. If you had three wishes, what would they be? (no wishing for more wishes!)

7. Whats one of your earliest memories?

8. If you could have any super power, what would it be?

And here are the people I would love to see answer these questions!

Gammy Bears

So as most of you know the world lost someone amazing this year. Gammy (Dora Friesen) was an angel to so many people and my life has felt empty since she traded her earthly wings for some everlasting ones. I needed a way to remember her so I created Gammy Bears! They are not all bears as you can see but Emma, my 5 year old said it sounded like gummy bears which are sweet, just like our Gammy that it just stuck. I love creating anything with my hands and I spent a few hours beside Gammy doing excatly that. The eyes are the buttons that I inherited from Gammy, so I feel good knowing there is a little of her love in each one.

Putting things in perspective

So lately I have been taking a break from etsy and facebook and such. I started to get too wrapped up in the excitment of card orders and making money that I forgot why I started doing this. Soon the card orders stopped coming and nothing was selling on etsy and I started to get blue and feel sorry for myself. My wonderful husband took me in his arms one night and reminded me that I do this because I LOVE to make cards, not to make money! We have always managed on his income and that i didn't need to feel so compelled to make money for the family. Not working outside the home and bringing in a steady income has always bothered me, and then my Hero said to me: "Sher, I just make the money, you are molding the future. My name might be on the cheque, buy we both have earned it." Hope this encourages you and for those of you that are stay at home moms trying to put things in perspective remember that God must have thought you were pretty amazing to entrust you with his most precious creation...children.

Feeling Inadequate...getting loved

So as most of you know, Emma my 5 year old, and Leah my 3 year old keep me on my toes but also bless me each day with the words that come out of their innocent mouths. Most of the cards you see were made with Leah on my lap "helping" me as much as she can! I have been feeling very inadequate lately trying to get ready for my first craft sale and not knowing very much about them (well, not knowing much period!) had me doubting myself whether or not it was a good idea to try to do this. I always show a freshly made card to Emma and get her opinion (she is VERY hard to please) and I usually get a response like; "I really like 'this' but it could do without 'that' and 'that'." She has pretty good taste so I was working on one specific card not liking how it was turning out so I showed it to Emma and she replied; "Oh mom! Even the angels would want THAT card!" Then she gave me a big hug and kiss. Needless to say, the card got finished and what was one of my least favorite cards is now a favorite, because even a blonde angel likes it...

This is the card that would have been trash, but was saved by innocent love.

I thought it would be fun to make a frame on the envelope to write the name of the person you are giving it to! It will make them feel extra special.

These are invites that could be used for any event and can be customized to suit any theme!

More wedding cards..... too many people in love these days :)

I am the type of person who thinks everyone should feel like a queen(or king!) on their birthday, so forgetting someones birthday by a day or two is no excuse not to let them know you love them! If anything, its MORE of an excuse to!

These are some of the new cards I've been working on. I seem to be making more and more cards with windows in them so I hope you like them!

There was a whole string of weddings so I had to get my act in gear and make some cards!
